What is your background? I was born in Cardiff, Wales and my family immigrated to Orillia, Ontario in 1974. I spent most of my adult life in Barrie before going back to college in 2013 to become a funeral director and then moved to Ottawa in 2016.
What are the values that drive you? Honesty, compassion, freedom, friendship.
Who is someone you admire, and why? I admire my mother – she moved across the ocean to a foreign country when she was 24, knowing no one, and with two young children. I’m always tremendously proud whenever someone says, “You’re just like your mother”. She’s brave, has great inner strength, personifies unconditional love and support, has an incredible work ethic, is a gracious hostess, and is one of my very best friends.
Name your top three favorite books, music artists or movies. Black Beauty by Anna Sewell, Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey, and Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling.
Do you have any skills or talents that most people don’t know about? I sing and have competed in the Kiwanis Music Festival at the provincial level, and have done quite a bit of musical theatre and public speaking. I’m also a certified funeral celebrant.
Finish this sentence: On Sunday mornings, you can usually find me… in bed catching up on my sleep.
How do you want people to remember you? As a nice person with a big heart who always did her best.
Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years? I never know how to answer this question as I tend not to think that far ahead. I could be back in Orillia, I could still be in Ottawa, I just don’t know. I do see myself being content, wherever I am.
