Palliative Massage Workshop
Coming in 2019!
There are few things in this world more connecting and comforting than the power of touch
This can be especially meaningful on an end of life journey when words can't capture one's feelings. Massage offers many incredible benefits and helps to maintain and heal our physical bodies. The same is true for those with a life limiting illness as massage can help to alleviate pain and symptoms through increasing circulation, eliminating toxins and preventing tissue breakdown.
In this one day Palliative Massage Workshop you will learn:
the benefits of massage
introduction to anatomy and physiology
posture and hygiene
basic massage techniques and strokes
equipment and products needed
Why Home Hospice Association chose to build this workshop
This course was created and is facilitated by Merri-Lee Agar. She brings 11 years of experience in Swedish Massage, Hot Stone Massage and Palliative Massage. As a Death Doula, Merri-Lee has experienced first hand how beneficial massage can be for they dying, and their loved ones. This workshop not only teaches students how to perform massage techniques, but also how to show loved ones basic ways to provide continued comfort and connection between treatments.
The day is broken into two parts; the morning is spent learning theory and the afternoon is spent practicing on each other.
There is no previous experience required, you will learn everything you need to know. The only prerequisite is being comfortable with both giving and receiving touch.
