It was December 2014 and a crazy idea was born.  How about making cupcake ornaments to sell at a craft show to raise money for HHA?  As we had just started our charitable registration efforts, traditional holiday appeal letters would not work because we could not issue a tax receipt.  So Christmas Craft Show… there is an idea!  We started by using spray foam as the base of the cupcake and drywall compound for the icing.  As you can imagine they weighed a small ton and certainly did not look very “appealing”.  Out came the glitter (I think I still have it in my home even though I have moved since), paint, mini Christmas decorations.  We made about seven dozen.  To our surprise we did sell some!  What did we do with the leftovers?  Well the following year we did a photos with Santa pet event and we decorated the tree beside “Santa” with all our cupcake ornaments.  People were invited to help themselves to an ornament after they had the photo taken.  They were thrilled, we used up all remaining ornaments and we have moved on to more successful fundraising activities since.
