Are You Joining Us on October 1, 2020 for the VIRTUAL Moonlit Memory Walk?

Every dollar you help us raise delivers the programs you care about like Hospice at Home, Compassionate Caregiving, Pre and Perinatal Hospice, and Bello Project. It will also enable us to continue educating and certifying Death Doulas and Infant and Pregnancy Loss Doulas who are specifically trained to help our dying whether that death is occurring in utero, shortly after birth or at the end of a life of memories and experiences.  Help us to help your community, let's do this together!

2020 has been a year like no other.  If it were not for COVID we would only think of bubbles when we were ready to take a bath, drink a glass of champagne or when watching children excitedly blowing through little plastic circles.  Now it is about our bubbles of “safety” that occupy our minds as we slowly start to live this “new normal”.   Read the Full Blog Post

In This Month's Edition

In This Edition August: Dying does not take a summer holiday - this is why our dedicated Home Hospice family works throughout the year.  Whether it is a Board member participating in goal setting for their Chapter, an event volunteer spreading the good word about our organization, or a Compassionate Caregiver holding the hand of someone taking their last breath, Home Hospice Association in your community never takes a holiday.  In this month’s edition of The Journey Journals you will read firsthand about all of the great work happening in our chapters.

(May) We are able to offer Death Cafes and CANDY Cafes as a public outreach project thanks to the many community partners who ensure costs do not prevent us from running and welcoming every member of our communities.  Whether it the donation of space, refreshments or marketing support, they are responsible for our ability to prove that “talking about death won’t kill you”.

April) For three years The Bello Project has been the recipients of funds from Muddy Paws Wine Festival.  Featherstone Winery, Indigo Pet Photography, Vineland Estates and many community businesses come together to create a fantastic day and generate necessary funds to help care for the pets of terminally ill pet owners.

For Anyone ~ Of Any Age ~ At  Any Time  ~  Under Any Roof

...Yesterday ~ Today ~ Tomorrow

It was February and it was Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities.  Home Hospice Association welcomed our first Charity Partner.  Our work was to bring an Adult Day Hospice to their community of clients with a life limiting illness.

It was July 2018 and we were teaming with excitement!  CBC Radio had just emailed and upon learning about our upcoming Death Café they wanted to be part of it; attend; learn and listen.  This Death Café was extra special because it was our first café geared to a specific target audience.  It was our first LBGTQ2+ Death Café.  Corrine Alstrom (HHA Death Doula Candidate) was our host and Glad Day Book Shop our host venue.  There was some trepidation as to whether or not our participants would welcome CBC and to meet our goal of “safe space” we set them up at the very back of the room and invited people to chose the CBC table if they were comfortable.  Many amazing things happened that night  Firstly the Death Café was our largest to date.  We had over 60 people in attendance.  The CBC table was more popular than we could have anticipated.  People not only wanted to talk, but wanted to be heard. We are so thankful to Corrine for having the vision to suggest this event; geared to a specific audience.  We continue to run our LBGTQ2+ Death Cafés and they remain our most well attended.
