Infant and Pregnancy Loss Doula

The Foundation of our Pre and Perinatal Hospice Program and...
Canada's FIRST Infant and Pregnancy Loss Training
What if I say the wrong thing? How do I help?

As a professional, you may have found yourself needing to support a client through a loss and felt powerless; not knowing what to expect along the journey at this most vulnerable and devastating time of their lives.

Yet, you sense you are being called to this work.

Home Hospice Association’s holistic approach to end of life care; our desire to fulfil our dream of supporting anyone ~ of any age ~ at any time ~ under any roof; created the need to develop the Pre and Perinatal Hospice Service and the need to build a national family of change makers.

Become an Infant and Pregnancy Loss Doula

Inspired by parents who shared their stories of pregnancy and infant loss, Home Hospice Association recognized the need for compassion, education, care and support. In 2015 we created Canada’s first Infant and Pregnancy Loss Doula Certification to help equip professionals with the knowledge, tools and resources needed to assist families at one of the most painful times of their lives.
Infant and Pregnancy Loss Doula Becomes One of Your Designations

Birth Doulas, Neo Natal Nurses, Social Workers, Funeral Directors, Bereavement Specialists, Health Care Workers and Physicians have taken this training to proudly present themselves as an Infant and Pregnancy Loss Doula. The origin of the word in its context of “serving others to provide emotional support, advice and comfort” makes the word Doula the most appropriate for the designation you are seeking.

What This Training and Certification Prepares You To Do:

Add the service to your current practice. Imagine the comfort you will provide to parents who, after already hiring you for their live birth, hear the devastating news that there is no heartbeat.

Use this expertise to better serve your clients/patients. Many professionals find themselves in the room with a family who is about to experience or has just experienced the loss of their pregnancy or baby. Just as it would have “taken a village” to raise that child should it have lived; you within your professional practice, may become part of the village who cares for that child and family at this devastating time.

Become a Champion in your Community. You and Home Hospice Association may work together to bring the Pre and Perinatal Hospice Program to your community. If there is a Home Hospice Chapter already in your community you may be hired to provide this care to the clients who reach out to us for support.

Pregnancy after Loss. Many parents will, after experiencing a loss, find themselves expecting again. Pregnancy after loss is a very specialized aspect of your practice that you will also be able to market upon completion of your training and certification.
