“And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
- Marianne Williamson
Julie-Anne Mauno grew up the daughter of a funeral director. Having observed and listened to stories of how her parents provided compassionate care to the families that came through the funeral home, she never imagined she would one day share that same passion for helping families through grief and loss. She found her way there through her work as a perinatal support professional. Called in one day by local clergy to support a young mother going through a pregnancy loss, she realized there was a need for more compassionate care. Through that experience she found a space where she knew she belonged.
That led to taking HHA’s Infant & Pregnancy Loss Doula training, launching a survey for parents on their experience of support during their miscarriage and working with HHA on the creation of an infant + pregnancy loss support group called “Our Babies - Our Grief”.
Julie-Anne has 7 children of her own. She lives in the small town of Ramore, in Northern Ontario, north of the arctic watershed. She has worked diligently over the last 20 years to support expecting and new mothers in her role as a birth doula + childbirth educator. She has recently added perinatal support worker and infant & pregnancy loss doula to her trainings in the hopes of better serving mothers in her area.
