HHA’s Houseless Hospice aims to meet the end-of-life care needs of those without a permanent home. Through education, mentorship, volunteer opportunities, and Death Doula support, we strive to provide holistic care wherever someone calls home.

About 'Houseless Hospice'

Houseless Hospice is an innovative project dedicated to providing compassionate end-of-life care to unhoused individuals. Recognizing that for many, the streets are their home, our program ensures these individuals receive the dignity and care they deserve during their final months and days.

Houseless Hospice addresses the unique needs of this marginalized population by offering personalized death planning, legacy projects, vigil services, and grief support - services not typically available to this population through traditional medical systems or social services. Our program provides tailored support for:

Individuals living on the streets
Those accessing the shelter system
Members of their chosen family and, when appropriate, their biological family
Volunteers supporting all areas of care
Professional caregivers serving this population

Partnering with community agencies already working with the houseless, our specially trained support teams and educators provide direct support and collaborate with partners to extend their services to end-of-life care.

How 'Houseless Hospice' Helps

Day Hospice for the Street-Involved

Through our Experiential Day Hospice, we offer those who are houseless or living in a shelter setting the opportunity to work on legacy projects and end-of-life planning in an environment that respects their choices and decisions to live life on their own terms.

Compassionate Companioning Online Training

This program provides specialized end-of-life training for staff and volunteers of agencies working with houseless populations through HHA's Compassionate Companioning Training. To ensure caregivers have the knowledge and skills to address the unique needs of unhoused individuals at the end of life, we include customized training modules tailored to this population.

'At the Bedside' Care

Our dedicated HHA Death Doulas provide bedside care to ensure that unhoused individuals are not alone in their final moments. Offering respite care and vigil sitting, our team supports those with limited family, friends, or community connections, providing comfort and companionship in their last hours and minutes.
