"It is my wish to better assist family, friends and caregivers by teaching them how to understand and in some cases change the language they use with those who are dying (as well as for the family who are grieving). From my experience I have seen many people heal and strengthen communication and relationships based on learning these tools. In times of crisis and pain, the need to reduce communication challenges becomes essential. Being able to truly “hear” the needs of the individuals whether dying or grieving, becomes such a pivotal skill in helping people move forward."  Gail Malcolm

Together we will explore Personality Dimensions®

Everyone is different,  we come in all varieties and understanding our own values, strengths, joys and stressors and those of everyone we interact with provides a great foundation for communication. Knowing some of the ways people are different assures us that we are okay in our own uniqueness and that we aren’t alone in some of our idiosyncrasies.

Personality Dimensions® translates complex personality theory into everyday language. It creates a framework for understanding – not a pigeonhole. You will recognize temperament patterns that you are comfortable with and those of people that you know, but it is not about putting people into a box. Identifying differences and similarities through Personality Dimensions® doesn’t determine our behaviour – we make those choices. We may be strongly inclined to act in certain ways but we each can decide how we will behave.

Most people find the experience of discovering their natural inclinations to be both very invigorating and self-affirming. It can also be a real eye-opening experience! Understanding your natural tendencies can let you consciously change your behaviours without changing who you are. It will give you the energy and confidence to develop beyond your natural self.

“Walking In Each Other’s Shoes”

Many Faces of Compassion is an educational series aiming to provide valuable information and resources for volunteer, family and professional caregivers supporting someone with a life-threatening illness.

Compassion is what motivates us to go out of our way to help the physical, mental, or emotional pains of another and ourselves….  Do you consider yourself a compassionate person?  Would you like to learn more about how to be the most compassionate person towards others AND yourself?

Our days are busier and busier it seems. Each Many Faces of Compassion event is a time for you to “breathe” and through that sense of peace learn, practical ways to care for ourselves and others.  Will it make our days less busy?  Likely not.  It will however make us more aware of how to make time for compassion in the middle of that busy-ness.

Who is Many Faces of Compassion for: Volunteer, familial and professional caregivers will all benefit from this event. “One in four Canadians aged 15 and older (7.8 million) provided care to a family member or friend with a long-term health condition, a physical or mental disability, or problems related to aging” (Statistics Canada, 2018).  Further “over half (55%) of caregivers felt worried or anxious as a result of their caregiving responsibilities” (Statistics Canada; Portrait of Caregivers, 2012). The theme, “Walking In Each Other’s Shoes”, portrays an important message: “you are not alone”.
