Dear Friends,
I just finished reading a great book that I think would help explain a death doula’s role for you. It's called Cultivating the Doula Heart: Essentials of Compassionate Care by Francesca Lynn ArnoldyI know you expressed an interest in becoming a death doula, as have I.

This book is part “how-to guide” and part hopeful manifesto. It helps explain the difference moving from sympathy to empathy to compassion, and also has some contemplative exercises.
The book is broken down into three sections:
Essentials of Doula Care
Before, During, and After Loss: A Doula’s Place in Sacred Space
Contemplative Practice
Each section has five or more different topics that relate specifically to the section title, with examples and dialogue for each. I really think this book would give you the knowledge to help spur you forward with becoming a death doula. I will help solidify your decision and spark a passion for wanting to help people as they transition.
I felt empowered after I read this book, and I think you will feel the same way once you are finished with it.
If you have any questions or want to discuss your feelings about this book, let me know. I look forward to hearing from you once you have read it!
Your friend,
Cara
