About
Adults who have children and teens in their lives have a unique challenge when talking about dying, death, and grief. HHA's Death Cafés for Parents & Guardians actively explore how adult participants can intentionally help the children in their lives by talking about death with them openly and comfortably.
This process also involves giving space to adults to talk about their own experiences with death and grief growing up, whether these were positive or negative. While this is not a grief support group and the intention is not for participants to use this time to explore their own relationship with death, we are prepared to discuss many aspects of death that may come up during conversations with children and teens.
Why we meet:
1. to get in touch with our own feelings/thoughts around dying, death, and grief so that we’re better equipped to talk to the young people in our lives
2. to understand how to talk to children and teens at different developmental stages so that we can provide stage- and age-appropriate information
3. to explore various communication strategies when talking to young people
