Death is Our Friend

Updated: Aug 26, 2022

Here is The Monday Motivation (TMM) for you! Have a super wonderful week ahead.

“Death is our friend precisely because it brings us into absolute and passionate presence with all that is here, that is natural, that is love."

When I first heard about the death doula movement on the CBC many years ago I knew that it was an important part of my calling. I have walked with several loved ones down their dying path and it's something that I find to be a beautiful privilege. Through my trans personal/experiential psychotherapy training I learned to have a good relationship with death.

As a birth doula, Reiki practitioner and a trans personal counselor this seemed to complete my "toolbox" and I graduated as a certified death doula in 2015. Trying my hand at my own non-profit death-care organization led me to realize that I wanted to be part of a larger picture, working hand in hand with like-minded people; folks who shared the same vision as I and folks who perhaps had visions I had never even dreamed of but was eager to explore.

HHA came into my life at the exact moment I needed it to and I was welcomed in with open arms in 2017. It's been a journey of learning, creating, reaching out, trying out, and enjoying collaborative efforts with the warmest and most caring team of people I can imagine. In my role as Client and Community Care Coordinator I have the honor of being the first point of contact or our clients. Working directly with people is where my strengths lie. Seeing this organization flourish as we all put our various talents to work in the places where they are most needed keeps me inspired. There is a level of mutual appreciation and commitment to this movement of dying a good death that can only lead to the continued growth and success of Home Hospice Association. I am proud to have been a small part of it thus far.

It is not the length of life, but the depth of it.
