HHA Doula's Infant and Pregnancy Loss Training and Certification Program

This March one of Home Hospice Associations members was featured in an article written by the Hamilton Spectator.

Susan Balaz, one of the founders of HHA's Infant and Pregnancy Loss Training and Certification Program, has been working to train interested people to deliver the compassionate conversation or presence that is needed to support people who have given birth to a stillborn baby.

Sue says that, when people are in midwifery training 'they don't tell you what to do, they don't teach you how to speak. They teach you the medical side, but they don't teach you how to speak or care for these families. This is where the HHA hopes to make a difference for people going through Infant and Pregnancy Loss.

By developing a course that will assist birthing professionals with the knowledge, tools and resources they need to help families at one of the most painful times in their lives. The HHA recognized the need for compassion, education, care and support and created Canada’s only Infant & Pregnancy Loss Doula Certification to help equip birthing professionals with the knowledge, tools and resources they need to help people in their communities.

When you register for the course you will be learning;

  • Full Scope of Practice; Infant & Pregnancy Loss Doula

  • Grief and Loss

  • Stages of Gestation

  • What to Expect at the Birth

  • Dealing with Our Triggers & Reactions

  • Self-Care

  • Support of Other Parent & Children & Grandparents

  • Counselling Skills

  • Honouring the Baby

  • Funeral Services
