A loss like no other

Infant & Pregnancy Loss Doula Scholarship

When labour leads to loss... no one need suffer alone

Inspired by parents who shared their stories of loss, Home Hospice Association recognized the need for compassion, education, care and support. In 2015 we created Canada’s first Infant and Pregnancy Loss Certificate Program to help equip our communities with the knowledge, tools and resources needed to assist people at one of the most painful times of their lives.

Today we need your help to ensure the tuition of $700.00 for the HHA Infant & Pregnancy Loss Certificate Program is available in the communities most in need.

Whether you are able to help provide funding towards one scholarship or fund an entire tuition, each dollar we raise puts one more Certified Infant & Pregnancy Loss Doula with someone who is about to experience or has just experienced the loss of their pregnancy or baby.

Some important things to know

  • The tuition for the Infant & Pregnancy Loss Certificate Program is $700.00

  • When a person completes their program they become a Certified Infant & Pregnancy Loss Doula; able to serve their community

  • Each person who is granted a scholarship is required to represent the HHA Pre and Perinatal Hospice Program in their Community

  • All donations towards HHA’s IPLD Scholarship Fund are tax deductible

Representation May Include:

Managing the local Comfort Cozie Program

Comfort Cozy soft_edited.jpg

“Comfort Cozies” are designed to clothe a baby who has been stillborn, in a way that can provide dignity and compassion to the family at a very tragic and emotional time.  It is difficult to dress an infant so that a parent is able to hold their baby before burial.  Comfort Cozies make it suitable for a child of any size and “gestation age.” Home Hospice Association volunteers give their time and talent to make the ensembles.

Whether the loss is through miscarriage, termination, stillbirth, infant death or adoption, this group welcomes participants to a 6 week exploration of healthy grieving practices in a caring, open, listening environment.  This group provides a safe space to honour memories child and come together with others who are grieving parents with the comfort that they are not alone.

"Loved spending time with these great people learning about helping families who have gone through the unbelievable loss of a baby. Big thanks to Home Hospice Association for the training and to Dodsworth and Brown Funeral Home for hosting us."

Thanks to You

Home Hospice Association will meet the goal of having trained in Infant & Pregnancy Loss in all settings where loss will or has taken place including:

  • Hospital Birthing Units

  • Women’s Shelters

  • Women’s Prisons

  • Community Prenatal Centres

  • Midwifery Clinics

  • Family Health Teams

With your support this is possible especially in the places where loss may well be suffered without partner or family support.

Imagine the comfort you will help provide to those who, in the time it has taken you to read this page, have just heard the devastating news that there is no heartbeat. Just as it would have “taken a village” to raise that child, you may become part of the village who cares for that child and family at this impossible time.

1 in 4. That is how many people will experience pregnancy loss.  Consider how it would feel to know you made a difference when a friend, neighbor, co-worker, family member or client hears the words “I am sorry but we can no longer detect a heartbeat”
